Auction
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Leon McConnell and his team, the auction raised almost $6000! The crowd seemed to really enjoy themselves and several bidding wars had the audience cheering. Auctioneer John Rorabeck, along with his side-kick Leon, kept the evening moving and certainly added to the overall enjoyment of the event. Overheard in the audience, “This is just like a play!” Thanks to the community for donating items, as well as coming out and buying!
Musicians for Mt. Tabor
The line-up of performers is set and tickets are now on sale for this exciting benefit show! We would have loved to perform in Mt. Tabor, but as this is a fundraiser, we wanted a bigger seating capacity. Thanks to the generosity of the newly renovated Regent Theatre, the benefit show will take place there. Be sure to mark Monday, June 13th on your calendar and get your tickets early! Tickets are $20, with all proceeds going into the TaborFix fund. Seating is not assigned, so note that the doors will open at 7:00, and the curtain will rise at 7:30. You can buy your tickets at Hicks’ Store (Milford), Scott’s Store (Picton), Wight’s Greenhouse (Wellington), and Quinte Arts Council (Belleville). Musicians for Mt. Tabor wouldn’t happen without the never-ending dedication of local performers, who are constantly asked to perform at fundraisers. Since every one of these musicians has performed on the Mt. Tabor stage, and therefore understand just how precious Mt. Tabor is as a performance space, they were only too happy to agree to come out and perform a couple of songs. Performers include The Frere Brothers with Jake deVries, Grampa’s Goodtime Gang, Bill Ostrander, Jerry Foster, Lenni Stewart, Seventh Town, Suzanne Pasternak, Jennifer Noxon, Amy Sedore, Penny & John Kitchen, and Loraine Sine. The evening will be hosted by Janet Kellough and Rick Zimmerman. Hope to see you there!
Basket Draw
Tickets are now on sale for our basket draw, valued at $470.00! Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00 and are available at Hicks’ Store and from various members of the TaborFix committee. The draw will take place at the end of intermission at Musicians for Mt. Tabor. A very special thanks to the following local businesses for donating items for the basket: Two Flex Passes for the 2011 Festival Players of Prince Edward County Season, Dinner for Two at The Milford Bistro, Accommodation for Two at Jackson’s Fall Country Inn, and a bottle of Long Dog Chardonnay!
Cash Donations
Cash donations have come in to our treasurer, for which we are very grateful. Thank you to those that have made donations. If you wish to make a donation to TaborFix and would like a tax receipt,
make the cheque out to The County of Prince Edward. If you don’t require a tax receipt, simply make the cheque out to TaborFix. Either way, cheques can be mailed to: TaborFix, c/o Diane Underhill, Treasurer, 104 Goodman Crescent, RR#2 Milford, ON, K0K 2P0.
County Council 2011Budget
County Council has set their 2011 budget and has set aside $22,000 to complete some of the upgrades that are required to Mt. Tabor. This money will be used on such things as the furnace room improvements, ceiling, and wall work. The money raised by TaborFix endeavors, will primarily be used to fix the front steps and assist with remaining fire code upgrades. Barb Proctor, Ward 9 Councillor states, “The front doors have already been improved to open outwards and a fire alarm system has now been installed as a result of the redirection of 2010 dollars that had been set aside by RPC for work to the parking lot. Since the front steps are not a fire code requirement, RPC plans to allocate the required $12,000 in the 2012 budget. Tabor Fix dollars raised will enable the front steps to be completed this year to prevent falls that could occur as a result of the reorientation of the front doors. Other issues in the theatre such as railings and fire code drapery and seats, floor lighting and minor improvements must be addressed. So, continue to marvel at the talent we enjoy while in the safe environment of Mt. Tabor.”
Thanks to the Community
A special thanks goes out to the community at large, who support Mt. Tabor and the fundraising efforts of TaborFix. The reality is that without these necessary improvements, Mt. Tabor would no longer be usable. One has to wonder that if it’s no longer usable, why would the County keep it? Thankfully, the Council’s allocation of $22,000 seems to represent a support of the building and the community events that happen in and around it. Thanks to the community, including County Council, we won’t need to face that, which means we can continue to enjoy Milord Fair, the ball diamond, Milford Market, theatre productions, music performances, winter carnival events, and the Easter egg hunt, to name a few. Your support of upcoming TaborFix events is still very much needed, but we feel well on our way to seeing the renovations completed in a timely manner.
